Well, it is 2021 and the opportunity for a trip to Cabo came up so we took it. Currently, travel to Mexico does not require a negative Covid test, proof of vaccination or proof of recovery. (getting back to the US is a different Westory) We did take a test at home just prior to departing, just to be sure. What Mexico does require is of course a valid passport. You are also required to fill out a health questionnaire prior to arrival. We did it online and printed the confirmation. We also did our Mexican tourist card online. We did not have issues with either one.
This trip we flew on United Airlines. We have not flown them in.. well... I can't remember when. The drawback with United, was the trip required an aircraft change to get to our destination. On the bright side we got to experience a couple new airports. Getting there we saw Chicago, O'Hare, coming back we saw the Denver International airport. I had been through O'Hare once before, again, many years ago. Denver was a first. Even though United is not blocking off middle seating, we were lucky enough to have a free middle seat on each leg of our journey. Makes the flights much more comfortable.
On the shorter legs we got a beverage. On the one flight from Chicago to Cabo, which was over 3 hours, we got a small snack bag. The Stroopwafel was really good. Upon returning home I was informed Walmart has them. Go figure. (I now have a box in the cupboard)
For this trip we stayed at Breathless Cabo San Lucas. As per most Mexico airports, getting out of the airport can be a challenge. You do get bombarded from time share type sellers. You need to be decisive and know where you are going. Any bit of confusion on your face and they latch on. Once outside, and I mean OUTSIDE, things get better. The sun was shining and that is where the true transportation companies wait for you. We took a private transfer with Amstar to Breathless Cabo San Lucas. It was about a 45 minute ride from the airport. Our driver was pleasant and knowledgeable.
Breathless is a smaller resort, 169 rooms, located on the marina. After checking in we headed to our room, on the 2nd floor, marina view. It was a very comfortable room and we enjoyed watching the comings and goings of the marina.
Below pics taken from our room.
As I am putting this page together I am realizing I did not take many pictures of around the resort.... not sure why. I apologize for that. Here are some that I have.
Breathless is located on Medano Beach, which is actually swimmable, most in the area are not. The beach is public, but Breathless has a small roped off area right in front of their property. We arrived on a weekend and the beach was VERY busy. People enjoying the sunshine. There are many vendors along the beach and it can at times be tiring. They are not allowed in the roped off area, but they will catch your eye and try to get you to purchase items from jewelry, hats, blankets, shirts, cigars, and many other items.
Cabo and the location Breathless Cabo San Lucas is at is great for those that enjoy action. It is located at the marina. The week before we went the highs were in the 80s... the week we went, in the low 70s. It was almost fallish, in the mornings and evenings you needed a light coat or sweater. It was great for a morning stroll. The marina has many shops. There are restaurants and bars that offer live music. Cabo is a bit more expensive than some of the other Mexican destinations we have been too Also, when walking along the marina you will have to contend with people trying to get you into their shops, restaurants or take one of their tours.
Speaking of tours, we did do not one, not two but THREE whale watching tours. The prime season for whale watching in Cabo is typically mid December to mid May. We did all three on the "Luxury Whale Watching" with Cabo Adventures. We sailed out on a catamaran, sailed past Lover Beach, the Arch and then out to see whales. Each sailing we saw a spout before Jacob, our guide, even had a change to explain what to look for an how to tell others. ( think of a clock, noon, 1 , 2 etc) Wilbert was the captain and Joel was our bartender. They did a fantastic job. A couple hours into the sailing we were served a bento box of cheese, shrimp cabob, steak cabob for the afternoon sailing, and sandwiches for the morning sailings.
Food is always an important part of a vacation. I LOVE to try new things and I LOVE seafood. With Covid, Breathless Cabo had all the menus on a QR code. If you don't have a phone they also have menus they wipe down. A note for you... as of this writing you can use your phone and see all their menus from this QR code.
I seem to have take more pictures of food than the resort...oops
This was a great vacation. If you need help lining up your next adventure, send me a message and I will see if I can help you out. Having been a travel agent for 30 plus years I have had the fortune to travel many destinations so I have first hand experience. I also work with a great group of ladies and we help each other out if there is somewhere we haven't been. Here are some final miscellaneous pictures.
And of course all good things must come to an end.
